In a bid to cushion the impact of the challenges young girls and women still face in acquiring menstrual kits, a non-governmental organisation, Survivor’s Network is organising a campaign called “One Girl, One Pad Campaign.”
According to the organisation, one of the things that pose these challenges is the continuous rise in the cost of sanitary pads, condoms, which are meant to promote safe sex practices and prevent STIs and are not being given out for free by the government.
Survivor Network says the disparity is unacceptable and it highlights the dire need for action to be taken to ensure that every woman has access to affordable menstrual kits. For many women, the high cost of sanitary pads puts them in a difficult position as they struggle to provide for themselves and their families.
Eunice Ngwepekem, Survivor’s Network lead, buttresses the fact that menstruation is a natural process that every woman goes through. She advocates that “every woman ought to have access to affordable sanitary pads that guarantee them proper hygiene and comfort during their periods.”
In commemoration of World Menstrual Hygiene Day on the 28th of May, 2023, Eunice says the Survivor’s Network has taken the responsibility to provide pads for vulnerable women and girls through its “One Girl One Pad” Campaign in the Eastern Region of Cameroon which has 1000+ girls.
The organization says donations or support of good sort towards the project will be appreciated.
