Introduction
Having been duly and officially recognised by the Guinness World Records (GWR) and upon going through the right process, Mary Angel Afoma is set to break the record for the Longest Baking Marathon by an individual – Bake to Break.
About Mary
Mary Angel Afoma is a student of the Department of Music at the University of Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
According to her Facebook bio, Mary is a Pro Baker, Entrepreneur, a Mother, a lover of knowledge and Founder, Eagle’s Foundation.
Although resident in Port Harcourt, Rivers State Capital, Ms. Afoma is from Amichi in Nnewi South Local Government Area of Anambra State, Nigeria.
Team Readiness and Fitness – GWR
Following the guidelines provided by the GWR team for a successful attempt, Mary has been up and doing with her team of organisers making sure that every single effort put into planning the contest counts and is rewarded with success.
Ms. Afoma is medically, physically, and mentally fit and ready to take up the challenge with the Nigerian “I Can” spirit.
Bake to Break – GWR
The BAKE TO BREAK attempt is to commence at 10:00AM on Wednesday, May 1, 2024 at Helena Hotels, on East West Road, Alakahia, Port Harcourt.
Chef Mary would be baking healthy pastries, cakes, bread, pies, etc to be distributed freely to students and all who would be going to the venue to cheer, support and encourage her.
Ms. Afoma is attempting to bake for 72 Hours non-stop to break the current record of 47 Hours, 21 Minutes and 21 seconds longest Baking Marathon by an individual.
Current Record and Holder
The current holder, Alan Fisher, an Irish Chef set the current record between September 25 and 27, 2023 surpassing the previous record of 31 hours and 16 minutes set by American Wendy Sandner.
